Happy Veterans Day!

Veterans Day is a day of reflection and gratitude. We pause to reflect on the acts of military service and courage that cannot be numbered, and we are grateful for all who have served to our nation so that we may know peace at home.

This is my grandfather, and my son's namesake. Following graduation from law school, he volunteered for service to his country in the United States Army. Despite being rejected for being blind in one eye and missing his right thumb, he persisted, returning to volunteer until he was ultimately admitted to service in the Army Infantry, where he served in Europe attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was a man of dedication and quiet resolve.

His story of rejection and persistence is just one example of the courage that laid the foundation for our shared peace and resilience. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and for that I am grateful.
